Photo Journalism
Context - Photojournalism is when the truth of certain pictures is not all that it seems and may not be real. Now that technology has arrived we have learned different methods to manipulate pictures so that the scenarios can be dramatically altered. Photojournalism to me is pictures taken and are placed in magazines and on the internet.
Application - The many pictures that are around are seen on magazines, books and now with the internet, these pictures are used to show major events in the past and present and are changed to show a different story.
Techniques - A famous camera that Henri Cartier Bresson used was the Leica it was introduced in 1925 in Germany and was the first portable device to be used. It glides with ease when the picture is taken and it was easy for photographers as you could look with the left eye and snap shots with the right hand. Also the camera being portable it was easier for the user to quickly snap a photo instead of bringing alot of photography equipment with them. Decisive moment is a major techinique to the photographers as it takes a split second of the world in a different perspective, Robert Capa, Henri-Cartier Bresson and Tony Vaccaro all used this techinique to fulfull there pictures.
Henri Cartier Bresson was a french photographer and was classed the godfather of decisive moment, he was a surrealist who would wait patiently for his scenerios to take place and would always sense something would happen. He would take pictures fraction of a second and if he missed that decisive moment the picture would completly change, the work he produced would predict historic events just through being in the right place and the right time.
Robert Capa was a photographer in the World War 2 between 1939-1945 he was the world's greatest war photographer. He went off with the first wave of troops and wanted to get the most realistic and truthful pictures of the suffering and brutal reality of what the war was doing. He took pictures for Life magazine and took 4 rolls of 35mm film unfortunatly 3 of the rolls were destroyed so was left with the 1 reminaing roll which included 11 frames. He risked his life to get the perfect pictures and gained celebrity status for his looks and famous for his shots.
